How are you planning to take care of yourself this weekend? Have you made sure to make time just for you?

I've noticed lately how intentional I have to be about setting time aside for myself. If I simply take time here and there I'm prone to filling it with (busy)work or wasting it in front of the tv when I really want to do something else. I've found myself glued to my phone while drinking my tea instead of utilizing my tea time as an opportunity to tune in to my needs and wants for the day. And that's not okay with me. So if I may, I challenge you to really, truly sink into the present moment this weekend. Unplug. Unwind. BE with your loved ones, BE with yourself, and listen carefully. You might learn something new.

As for my plans to care for myself, I'll be settling deeply into two books I want to finish before school starts up again on Wednesday. I'm also going to make time to hang up the photos I've been reminding myself to hang for over a year now.

When you check in with friends, do you feel safe to go deep into your conversations and discuss what's really on your mind? Do you have the space to discuss hopes and dreams, fears and worries? Not the everyday or gossipy stuff but the big picture topics that keep you up at night.
Try to make a point this week to go deep with someone or discuss a fear/hope with someone that you haven't before. Given the compounding effects of 2020 on us all it can be really connecting and stress relieving to dive into a conversation with a loved one for support, even if a hug can't be provided.

Personally, I'm feeling good about today and overwhelmed with doubts and "what ifs" about the rest of the year. Holiday sales, school considerations, and the nagging feeling that I've lost the last 7 months are weighing on me. But I'm grateful that today looks good and my mind is focusing on the present. Always count the small blessings.

What books do you read for comfort? I made this blend in honor of Professor Trelawney, using ingredients with "witchy" properties to invoke clarity, prophecy, protection, and good luck. I'm usually in the middle of a Harry Potter reread this time of year but I can't get into it with the fires. It's such a nostalgic series for me, I don't want to associate it with all the crises going on (that's weird, right?).

The ground is so covered in ash it looks like snow. The lights in my apartment complex are still on because it's too dark for them to realize it's daytime. Multiple friends and family members are evacuating right now, the fires are so close to them. Am I scared? Yes. Is this fine? No. Sorry not sorry for going personal today instead of tea chatty.
